Michael Atingi-Ego Appointed Governor of Bank of Uganda, Augustus Nuwagaba Named Deputy

KAMPALA – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Michael Atingi-Ego as the new Governor of the Bank of Uganda.
Atingi-Ego previously worked for the central bank in 2020 as Deputy Governor, now takes over the top position at the country’s central bank since the death of long- serving former governor, Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile, in 2022.

Sandor Walusimbi, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni's spokesperson, confirmed the appointment of Atingi-Ego.
In the same reshuffle, Augustus Nuwagaba has been named the new Deputy Governor.
Nuwagaba, a seasoned economist, is expected to bring his expertise to the central bank’s leadership at a time of economic transformation and monetary policy adjustments.

His elevation to the governorship signals continuity in the Bank of Uganda’s policies.
The new leadership at the central bank is expected to play a crucial role in managing inflation, stabilizing the currency, and steering Uganda’s financial sector towards sustainable growth.
