Lira City East: Manhunt Underway for Suspected Shooter as Police Intensify Investigations

Police in Lira-City East Division have launched an investigation into a fatal shooting that occurred late Monday night, leaving one person dead and two others injured.
According to a statement from North Kyoga Police spokesperson, SP. Patrick Jimmy Okema, the incident happened on February 24, 2025, at approximately 11:30 PM. Unknown assailants on a motorcycle opened fire at a container pork joint near Corner Boroboro Center along the Lira-Soroti highway.
According to police findings, the attack claimed the life of 28-year-old Akello Helen, a resident of Barlwala Cell, Angwetangwet Ward.
"She was rushed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Two other victims, identified as Vivian Ayuru and Auma Marcy, sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical care", the statement revealed.
Okema confirmed that law enforcement officers, led by the Division Police Commander (DPC) for Lira-City East, swiftly responded to the scene, securing and documenting evidence.
While investigations are ongoing, Okema notes that no suspects has yet been arrested or identified.
He further called upon anyone with relevant information regarding the attackers to assist in the investigation by reporting to the police.
In the recently launched Annual Crime Report, North Kyoga Police Region was ranked 3rd with 16, 220 case recorded in 2024.
