Dokolo District Mourns 4, Calls for Thorough Investigation

DOKOLO - Dokolo district stakeholders continue to mourn the lives of their residents who perished in a nasty road accident including three pupils of Dokolo primary school.
Two other victims are currently receiving treatment from Lira Regional Referral Hospital, in an accident which happened on the 4th Nov 2024 at about 1315 hours at Alokiri cell, along Dokolo-Amolatar road.
SP. Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga police spox identified the deceased as Jovan Opio, 11, Darius Ogwal, 9, and Erick Adoko aged 7. All are primary two pupils of Dokolo primary school.
Others are Evelyn Among, 59 and a resident of Abenyo cell, southern ward, Dokolo town council, Dokolo district.
The injured are Emmanuella Gum 9, and Ezanita Alela all in primary two at Dokolo primary school and residents of Alokiri cell, southern ward, Dokolo town council, Dokolo district.
According to preliminary investigations, the pupils were confirmed dead on spot while the woman died from the hospital.
“It was alleged that on the 4th Nov 2024 at around 1315 hours, motor vehicle Reg. No UAZ 298P driven by Mr Awira Moses traveling from Dokolo towards kaberamaido upon reaching Alokiri cell slightly after Dokolo primary school lost control and knocked three pupils dead and one woman aged 59yrs old who later died from Dokolo Health Center. Two others who were seriously injured were also transferred to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for further medical assistance” said SP. Okema.
With this, David Eryatu the Education officer of Dokolo district while speaking to journalists said the death of three pupils of Dokolo primary school has shocked the district Education department citing loss of future generation leaders in different fields.
Dokolo district boss, James Otoo Apili has pledged total support from the district to ensure that the affected families are supported.
He also noted that the accident has interrupted the district activities noting that this is a difficult time to stand with the family.
Otoo Apili however warned the public against taking the law into their hands but rather allow police to carry out thorough investigations while acknowledging that the accident was not intended.
Joel Opota Okuma, the District speaker who doubles as an area Councilor representing Dokolo town council explained that the death of pupils has unfortunately interrupted the school activities especially during this time when the school is planning for the Primary Leaving Examinations.
He also called for togetherness and unity between the security department, District stakeholders, school authorities and families to join hands in handling the fatal situation.
Opota Okuma also cited a similar situation that occurred in 2023 at Dokolo primary school when a P.7 candidate lost his life after a classroom pillar collapsed on him.
Babra Akech, the Resident District Commissioner of Dokolo emphasised calmness from the public while police investigate.
