LCC FC’s Goal-Scoring Blitz Meets Akalo Express’s Resilience in Must-Win Clash

Lira, Uganda – April 27, 2025 – This afternoon, Lira City Council FC (LCC FC) will host Akalo Express FC in what promises to be a jaw-dropping encounter at the Lango College playground, part of the Northern Regional League’s Rhino Group fixtures.

LCC FC, currently second on the Rhino Group table with 27 points from 13 matches, are on an impressive unbeaten streak spanning four games in the second round. The Dan Ogwal Engwedo-coached side has been prolific in front of goal, netting 16 times in three of their last four matches. Their recent form includes a commanding 6-0 home victory over Red Devo FC, a goalless draw in the heated Lira City Derby against Saviors FC on the road, and emphatic wins against SC Tawai (6-1) and Tigers FC Namasale both home and away.

Despite their strong run, LCC FC trail league leaders Northern Gateway SC by four points. Northern Gateway SC gained an uncontested 3 points and 3 goals on Saturday when Tiger FC Namasale failed to show up for their fixture, intensifying the title race.

Akalo Express FC, sitting 6th with 14 points from 11 games, have struggled to convert draws into wins, recording 8 draws, 2 victories, and just a single loss. The Akalo-based side lies precariously just one point above the relegation zone, making today’s match crucial for their survival hopes.

The reverse fixture earlier this season ended in a goalless stalemate in Akalo, underscoring the competitive balance between the two teams.

Stakes and Scenarios

LCC FC must win all their remaining matches and hope Northern Gateway SC drops points to have a chance at topping the Rhino Group. The winner of the Rhino Group will face the Elephant Group leader to determine the Northern Regional League champion. That champion will then compete against the West Nile Regional League winner for a coveted spot in the FUFA Big League qualification playoff.

Elephant Group Update

In the Elephant Group, Young Elephant Academy FC leads the pack with 39 points from 16 games, boasting an impressive record of 12 wins, 3 draws, and only one loss. Match day 17 for the Elephant Group is slated for midweek, promising more intense competition.
