Dokolo Woman MP Donates School Supplies to Top PLE Performers, Urges Parents to Prioritize Education

Dokolo District – Hon. Sarah Aguti Nyangkori, the Woman Member of Parliament for Dokolo, has donated mattresses and school boxes to the best-performing pupils in the 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE). The donation event took place on Monday afternoon at the Dokolo District Council Hall.

During the event, Hon. Aguti Nyangkori emphasized the importance of education for both boys and girls, urging parents to prioritize their children's schooling and avoid forcing them into early marriages, which can negatively impact their future. She reaffirmed her commitment to supporting education in Dokolo District.

A total of 116 school boxes and 116 mattresses were distributed to the top-performing pupils to support their transition into secondary and technical schools across the country.

Jimmy Awany, a political assistant to Uganda People's Congress Party President Hon. Jimmy James Michael Akena Obote, urged parents to discourage absenteeism and excessive involvement of children in domestic and agricultural work, which hinders their academic progress.

Angelus Ocen Ogwal, UPC Chairperson for Dokolo District, encouraged parents to prioritize their children’s education to drive positive change in their families and communities. Meanwhile, Francis Ogwal Nam, the District Secretary for Production, Marketing, and Natural Resources, advised parents to enroll their children in nearby secondary and technical schools to reduce financial and logistical challenges.

David Livingstone Okello, the District Inspector of Schools, revealed that Dokolo recorded poor performance in the 2024 PLE, with only 116 pupils attaining Division 1, while over 600 students received Division U (ungraded). However, he noted an improvement compared to 2023, when over 900 students were ungraded. He called on Hon. Nyangkori and other stakeholders to collaborate with the District Examination Board to improve examination performance.

Parents who received the donations, including Ronald Ojede and George Ongom Lango, expressed gratitude to Hon. Nyangkori, stating that the mattresses and school boxes would help them prepare their children for school.
