Dokolo Engages Community on HIV/AIDS Awareness and Prevention Session

Dokolo HLCIV recently conducted a community engagement meeting to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS self-testing and prevention measures. The meeting, which was held at the Dokolo Production Board Room, brought together health workers, security personnel, sex workers, truck drivers, church leaders, and LC1 chairpersons.

Sister Eveline Tracy Ajunu, Assignment Nursing Officer and Chairperson for Uganda Nurses and Midwifery Union, spoke on behalf of District Health Officer Dr. Samuel Ojok. She reported a significant reduction in HIV prevalence, from 5.8% to 3.7%, due to the efforts of competent health workers and support from implementing partners.

Ajunu encouraged the community to act as ambassadors of HIV prevention and to train others to reduce the spread of the virus and combat gender-based violence. She also called for more partners to support the district in its fight against HIV/AIDS.

Sister Jacky Etap, Senior Midwife at Dokolo HLCIV, advised people living with HIV/AIDS to adhere to their medication schedules and seek medical attention when needed. She also encouraged married couples to remain faithful to one another as a measure to reduce the spread of HIV.

Liliana Apio, a Nursing Officer from Dokolo HLCIV, emphasized the importance of HIV testing, especially for pregnant women, and urged the public to seek medical advice if they notice any signs or symptoms of HIV.

Daniel Ocen and Tirus Odongo, two beneficiaries of the awareness program, expressed their appreciation for the training, which focused on the use of PrEP, PEP, and condoms to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.
