Dokolo District Receives UGX 139 Million to enhance Climate Smart Agriculture

Dokolo – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Animal Industry has allocated UGX 139 million to Dokolo District under the Climate Smart Agriculture Transformation Project for the financial year 2024/2025. This initiative aims to enhance agricultural productivity, improve farmers' livelihoods, and promote climate resilience across the district.
Dr. Richard Enyang, the District Production Officer, confirmed the funding, emphasizing that the project will focus on key agricultural sectors, including livestock farming, fruit plantations, apiculture (beekeeping), entomology, and general agricultural production.
The five-year project, running from 2024 to 2028, is expected to boost value addition and sustainable farming practices in the region.
Dr. Enyang revealed that farmers will be required to provide co-funding to benefit from the project.
The selection process for farmer groups and agricultural enterprises has already been completed across all sub-counties in Dokolo District.
He encouraged farmers to embrace the project with a positive mindset and actively participate in organized groups to maximize benefits, urging more farmers to form groups in their respective areas to increase access to project support, which aims to alleviate poverty and improve household incomes.
The Climate Smart Agriculture Transformation Project will support various developmental activities, including: livestock farming in five sub-counties, crop production in ten sub-counties, Apiculture (beekeeping) in ten sub-counties, Black soldier fly farming for sustainable livestock feed, and construction of a district laboratory block to enhance agricultural research and disease control
The funds with also cover expenses of road construction to improve access to markets and farming communities, facilitate the provision of irrigation equipment to support farmers in mitigating the effects of climate change and also encourage sustainable Agricultural practices.
Dr. Enyang emphasized the importance of mindset change among farmers, urging them to adopt climate-smart agricultural practices that enhance productivity and resilience. He noted that the project's interventions would play a crucial role in modernizing agriculture and improving food security in the district.
As the implementation of the project begins, stakeholders and local leaders are expected to collaborate closely with farmers to ensure the success of the initiative.
The Climate Smart Agriculture Transformation Project is anticipated to create long-term economic and environmental benefits for the people of Dokolo District.
