Dokolo District Records Low Turnout as Schools Reopen for First Term 2025

Dokolo District registered a low turnout in government-aided primary schools as the first term of 2025 began.

David Livingstone Okello, the District Inspector of Schools, made the revelation on Monday 3 February, 2025 during an interview at the Dokolo District Headquarters.

According to Okello, the low turnout signals potential challenges in academic performance across the district. He reported that several schools had alarming absentee rates.

Igar P/S recorded 25 out of 1,235 pupils, Adagnyeko P/S had 39 reporting out of 1,000 pupils, Alyejuk P/S received 116 out of 1,004 pupils, Awerowot P/S recorded 216 out of 850 pupils, Aburcero P/S 37 out of 1,476 pupils, while Awialem P/S recorded 323 out of 1,245 pupils.

Okello used the same platform to warn parents keeping their children at home for domestic work or farming against the Education Act and Uganda’s Constitution noting that they would face legal action.

He urged stakeholders, including security agencies, district officials, political leaders, and local council chairpersons, to work together to combat school dropouts and absenteeism, which are contributing to poor academic performance in the district.
