Lira City Mayor Threatens Legal Action Against Journalists Over Theft Allegations

Lira City Mayor, Sam Atul, has threatened legal action against any journalist who publishes false reports about thefts involving city funds. Atul made this statement during the reception of a new caterpillar purchased by the Lira City Council. The mayor addressed accusations that he, along with other city leaders, had embezzled funds intended for the purchase of the machinery.
Atul vowed to take legal steps against any journalist or councilor who spreads these rumors, emphasizing the importance of truth in reporting. He also assured the public that the new caterpillar would be used carefully to improve road infrastructure in Lira, addressing residents' concerns about poor road conditions.
Lira City Speaker, Patrick Okwir, also responded to the accusations, calling them baseless. He reaffirmed the commitment of city leaders to driving development in Lira, while ensuring transparency in the use of public funds.
The caterpillar, purchased at a cost of 565 million shillings, is part of Lira’s efforts to improve road conditions using locally generated revenue.
