Horror in Omoro: Wild Animal Attack Leaves Woman Injured

Omoro Sub County, Alebtong District – In a shocking incident that has left the local community reeling, a 28-year-old woman was attacked by a wild animal while attempting to protect her neighbor's poultry. The attack occurred in Adeki-arwai village on Monday, March 24, 2025, as reported by Isaac Apenyo Mukwazi, the Chairperson LC3 of Omoro Sub County.

According to Mukwazi, the victim, identified as Betty Ajur, was left unconscious after the unidentified wild animal, initially preoccupied with attacking Mr. Owino's chicken, turned its aggression towards her. Witnesses reported that Ajur attempted to raise an alarm, but the animal quickly lunged at her, inflicting severe injuries to her head and hands.

Local residents, alerted by her cries, rushed to the scene. They managed to chase down and kill the animal before carrying Ajur's unconscious body to Omoro Health Center III for immediate medical attention. Reports suggest that the wild animal may possess poisonous traits, raising concerns among the community about potential dangers lurking in the area.

In light of this distressing event, Apenyo has urged district leaders to coordinate with the Uganda Wildlife Authority to investigate the presence of any similar animals in the vicinity. He emphasized the importance of community safety, advising residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their livestock from wildlife threats.

"This is a wake-up call for all of us," Apenyo stated. "We must ensure that our homes and farms are safe from wild animals. I urge everyone to stay calm but alert, and to report any suspicious wildlife activity immediately."

The attack has sparked fear among residents, highlighting the ongoing challenges of human-wildlife conflict in the region. As the investigation unfolds, the community is left grappling with the aftermath of this terrifying encounter, hoping for a swift recovery for Betty Ajur and a resolution to the threat posed by wild animals in their midst.
