The Parish Priest of Lira Diocese Urges Locals to be Vigilant on Money Swindlers
By Ceasar Okello
Catholic Priests in Lira Diocese are concerned about some money swindlers who are conning Christians of their money using the names of clergy men and women.
Speaking to radio Qfm, on Tuesday 13 while at Apostolic Social Center Lira, the Parish Priest of Lira Cathedral Parish Fr. Emmanuel Opio confirmed that information reaching the higher authority in the Diocese indicate that some people disguising as the clergy are conning the community members.
According to Fr Opio who is also the chancellor of Lira Diocese, the alleged swindlers are using the names of some Priests and Rev. Sisters when introducing themselves upon calling.
"While making these phone calls to the victims, they ask for money ranging from shs 200,000-250,000", said Fr. Opio.
He noted that these yet to be identified persons identify themselves to the victims as Fr.Robert, Rev. Sister Mary and Dr. Henry of Lira Regional Referral Hospital to rob community members of their money.
Fr. Emmanuel Opio has now appealed to members of the public to be vigilant and avoid sending money to people they do not know.
