Northern Gateway SC’s Big League Dreams Shattered

Northern Gateway SC’s hopes of advancing to the FUFA Big League have come to an end for the 2024/2025 season after a narrow 1-0 defeat in the Northern Regional playoff final.
The Galatians, representing the Rhino Group, faced off with Young Elephant Academy FC the top side from the Elephant Group in a highly anticipated decider.
The match was settled by a lone penalty goal in the second half, scored by the visiting Young Elephant Academy FC.
Northern Gateway’s striker, Jacob Okabo, missed a crucial penalty after being brought down in the box by a Young Elephant defender, compounding the team's heartbreak.
This marks the second consecutive year Northern Gateway SC has fallen short. In the 2023/2024 season, they were eliminated in the semifinals by Paidha Black Angels under the guidance of Head Coach Anthony Odongo and Assistant Coach Ojok Alito.
Young Elephant Academy FC had an impressive run in the Elephant Group, finishing top with 55 points from 22 matches.
This is the club's debut appearance at this level, and they are now eyeing a historic maiden promotion to the FUFA Big League.
The academy side will face Nebbi Central FC, champions of the West Nile Region, who sealed their place after a dramatic 3-0 penalty shootout win over Oramachaku FC.

Second Leg: Young Elephant Academy FC vs Nebbi Central FC
Date: 28th June 2025 – Venue: Elephant Park, Northern Region
