Bata Primary School in Dokolo district has finally registered a significant improvement on the enrolment of candidates due to sit for Primary Leaving Examinations-PLE this year

This follows a massive and rigorous mobilization effort by local leaders and school authorities in recent weeks after Anthony Okwir, the school’s head teacher had decried the low turn of pupils in candidate class.

Okwir tells Radio Qfm that the number of candidates shot from a paltry four pupils up to 22 in just a day and he attributes this surge to the mobilization efforts by the district leaders on the various local FM stations.

Denis Ojede the chairperson school management committee has meanwhile encouraged parents to ensure their children remain in school to secure their future and to improve on the academic performance in the district.

On the other hand t Raphael Okello a councilor of Bata Town council has warned of an operation to arrest parents who fail to take their children back to school.

“The efforts to boost enrollment and ensure students sit for their exams are yielding positive results. We urge parents to continue supporting the education of their children” Okello said

When the second term commenced, only four candidates reported back to class and this was attributed to absenteeism, which also reduced the school’s overall enrollment from 1,087 to just 438 learners.

Bata Primary School currently has a total enrollment of 1087 students, with 705 students currently attending classes, up from 438 previously. The school has 11 teaching staff.

The efforts to boost enrollment and ensure students sit for their exams are yielding positive results. We urge parents to continue supporting the education of their children.

Santo Okuja, the District Secretary for education and health says many of the children were kept at home to assist in garden work but appealed to parents to recognize education as the foundation for a better future.
