53YO dies after suspected poisoning

The territorial command at Amolatar police station have registered Death Enquiry File (DEF) 001/2024 following suspected death by poisoning.

The incident was reported by Sam Olobo , aged 47 who is the LC1 chairperson of Ali village, Muntu parish, Muntu Sub-County, Amolator District.

SP. Jimmy Patrick Okema, Spokesperson North Kyoga Regional Police has now identified the deceased as David Ogwal, aged 53. Ogwal was a peasant farmer and a resident of Ali village Muntu parish, Muntu Sub-County, Amolator District.

Police findings indicate that the incident might have occured in Muntu Township, Muntu Sub-County, Amolator District.

Part of the statement alleges that on the 31st Jan 2024 at around around 1000hours, the deceased David Ogwal left his home and went to Muntu Township where he met up with Solomon Okema and Tony Ogwal.

Police findings also indicate that at around 1800hours, Tonny Ogwal bought some porridge for Solomon Okema from Mary Auma. However Okema refused the porridge and told Tonny Ogwal to serve it to Ogwal David. 

Ogwal David upon taking the porridge, allegedly complained that the millet porridge was sour. 

Okema says the following day, 01st Feb 2024 at around 0700hrs while at home, the deceased started complaining of stomachaches and vomiting forcing the daughter Phoebe Apili to take him to a clinic within their village but later was referred in the afternoon to Amolatar H/C4 while the condition was worsening.

"On the 04th Feb 2024 at around 0800hours, the deceased and the daughter allegedly escaped from the health facility and went home while his condition wasn't still good, hence at around 1100hours Ogwal is said to have passed on", said Okema.

According to Okema, Apili informed the uncles who got concerned and reported to LC1 chairperson and immediately he reported the matter at Muntu Police Post.

He also said that police responded to the scene, documented, collected samples for analysis while the body was recovered from his house and conveyed to Amolatar H/C4 pending postmortem examination.

Meanwhile, three people have been arrested to help in investigation thereby calling for calmness and pledging to do all it takes to understand what exactly happened before charges are preferred on them.
