Self Proclaimed Pastor Awio Scrap, accomplices granted bail

Court News: Lira Chief Magistrate, Joe Fay Adoko has granted Awio Isaac aka Awio scrap dealer and his six accomplices (bouncers) a court bail.

On January 8th, 2025, the suspects appeared before Chief Magistrate Court, Lira.

Chief Magistrate, Joe Fay Adoko granted bail to Awio scrap dealer and the six bouncers accused of assaulting Walter Ogwang aka Lil Square and further causing damage to his car Reg: UAU 045Q.

The territorial police in Lira, on 3rd January, 2025, registered a disturbing incident where local artist Ogwang Walter, alias Lil Square, was allegedly assaulted and his vehicle maliciously damaged.

According to North Kyoga Police spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the suspects, led by Awio Isaac, reportedly demanded money from Ogwang before hiring six bouncers to carry out the "assumed smart attack" in broad daylight on Obote Avenue in Lira City.

According to eyewitnesses, Awio and his accomplices parked their vehicle in front of Ogwang's white Toyota Max 2 Grand, registration number UAU 045Q, and proceeded to assault him. They also damaged the vehicle's front windshield.

The six Bouncers include; Eric Odyeny, David Arok, Bonny Acai, Ronald Okumu, Ambrose Omara, and Elvis Okoo.

Subsequent court hearing is set for January 16th, 2025.  

Similarly, a stern warning was issued on Thursday, 2nd January, 2025 by Police Spokesperson, ACP Rusoke Kituuma following numerous altercations between different groups of musicians on New Year.

The warning states that police has, “The Uganda Police Force has observed a trend among musicians who are utilizing gangs to intimidate one another leading to disorder and chaos at public events and entertainment functions.”

Rusoke says police has commenced investigations and warns that all individuals involved will be arrested and prosecuted before the courts of law.
