CAF Increases Prize Money for 2024 African Nations Championship

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a significant boost in prize money for the upcoming 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), co-hosted by Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya. The tournament is set to kick off on February 1, 2025.

The winner of CHAN 2024 will now receive USD $3.5 million, a 75% increase from the last edition. Overall, the total prize pool has risen to USD 10.4 million, reflecting a 32% increase.

CAF president Dr. Patrice Motsepe emphasized the importance of CHAN for the growth of African football. He stated, “The CHAN is an important competition for the development and growth of Africa-based football players and talented young players. It will contribute significantly to the global competitiveness of African football and CAF competitions.”

The tournament will begin on Saturday, February 1, 2025, with the final scheduled for Friday, February 28, 2025\. So far, 17 teams have qualified, including hosts Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, along with Morocco, Guinea, Senegal, and others. Two more teams will be determined soon to complete the 19-team lineup.

The official draw for the TotalEnergies CHAN 2024 will take place on January 15, 2025, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi, Kenya.
