Gang Violence Erupts in Lira: Lil Square Allegedly Assaulted in Broad Daylight

Lira, Uganda – In a concerning incident reported on January 3, 2025, local musician Ogwang Walter, popularly known as Lil Square, was allegedly assaulted and had his vehicle vandalized in Lira. The incident, which unfolded on Obote Avenue, involved a group of suspects led by a man identified as Awio Isaac, who reportedly demanded money from Ogwang before escalating to violence.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that Awio and his accomplices parked their vehicle directly in front of Ogwang's white Toyota Mark 2 Grand, registration number UAU 045Q, blocking his path. They then proceeded to physically assault the artist while also damaging his vehicle's front windshield. The actions of the group, which included hiring six bouncers for the attack, have drawn sharp criticism from the community and raise serious concerns regarding public safety.

North Kyoga Region Police Spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, confirmed that police responded quickly to the scene. "We apprehended some suspects and took them to Lira-City Central Police Station (CPS) for further investigation. A case of assault and malicious damage has been officially lodged at Lira-City CPS," he stated. The police have assured the public that they will conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Uganda Police Force has condemned the violent actions directed at Ogwang Walter. "Such acts of violence will not be tolerated," SP Okema emphasized, adding that the police are committed to ensuring that justice is served. "We appeal to members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with the police as we work to resolve this matter."

Community members have expressed concern over the increasing incidents of violence and the implications they hold for local artists and the wider public. "It's disheartening to see someone like Ogwang, who brings so much joy to our community, become a target of such aggression," remarked local resident Jessica Atim. "We need to work together to stop these senseless acts."

While the police work diligently to uncover the truth behind this incident, many locals hope it will serve as a wake-up call to address the underlying issues that contribute to such violent behavior in the community. The situation remains fluid as further investigations unfold and more information comes to light.

As calls for justice grow louder, the Lira community stands united in its support for Ogwang Walter, urging law enforcement to take significant steps to deter future instances of such violence. This incident underscores the importance of safety and respect for local artists, who play a vital role in shaping the cultural landscape of Uganda.
