Bishops from different denominations across the Lango sub region in Northern Uganda under their umbrella body; Lango Religious Leaders Forum have organized prayers in Lira City over the endless wars in Lango over the Leadership of Paramount Chief.
During their meeting held at All Nations Church on 5th December 2023, the Bishops unanimously endorsed December 15th as the day to host the prayers.
The Chairperson Lango Religious Leaders Forum who is also the Bishop of Lira Diocese Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanock told Journalists that they agreed to organize prayers after realising that the fighting over the Won Nyaci position is increasing confusion in Lango.
Bishop Wanock says the prayer is intended to harmonize the two warring factions to come together and cherish peace as the only solution.
He appreciated Dr. Eng. Moses Odongo Okune for stepping down as the parallel Won Nyaci of Tekwaro Lango faction as the only way of bringing peace in the region.
According to Wanock, they are all aware of the Electoral Commission road map for the election of new Won-Nyaci urging them to continue until Lango has their new leader.
Bishop Emeritus of All Nations Church Tom Ibrahim Okello showed dissatisfaction regarding the actions portrayed by Lango Paramount Chief Yosam Odur Ebii of suspending the activities of the Electoral Commission and Owitong from organising elections for the new Won-Nyaci.
Ibrahim Okello said all categories of people must do all it takes to promote peace in Lango and guard against disunity.
