Dr. Jane Ruth Acheng Commissions New Well in Te-Obwolo B Cell, Lira City

Lira City, Uganda – On Monday, March 3, 2025, Dr. Jane Ruth Acheng, the Woman Member of Parliament for Lira City and Minister of Health, officially commissioned a newly constructed well for the residents of Te-Obwolo B cell, Akia Parish in Lira City East Division. This initiative aims to provide the community with reliable access to clean water, significantly improving their quality of life.
During the commissioning ceremony, Felix Opito, the local LC1 of Te-Obwolo B cell, expressed his gratitude to Dr. Acheng for her unwavering support and commitment to the community. He highlighted the challenges the residents faced in accessing water, often competing with cattle for this vital resource. "Dr. Acheng has been a beacon of hope for us, and her efforts have saved us from the struggles we faced in our daily lives," he stated.
In her address, Dr. Acheng emphasized the critical importance of water access as a fundamental priority for the community, stating, "Water is life, and it is essential for health, education, and overall development. We must prioritize access to clean water over other social services to ensure a healthier and more productive community."
Dr. Acheng also commended the community for their collaborative efforts in the construction and maintenance of the well, acknowledging that teamwork is vital for sustainable development. "Your commitment to working together is commendable, and it is this spirit of unity that will drive progress in our community," she remarked.
In a further commitment to the residents, Dr. Acheng pledged to support the construction of a borehole for the neighboring Te-Obwolo A cell, ensuring that more families will benefit from access to clean water.
