Dokolo: LC1s chairpersons urged to champion community sensitization to boost Academic Performance
Authorities in Dokolo Town Council have tasked Local Council One (LC1) chairpersons to organize village meetings on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, to sensitize the community on measures to improve academic performance in government-aided schools.
Jimmy Emanuel Ecumu, the Vice Chairperson of Dokolo Town Council, said the decision was reached during an Education Conference held on Monday at the Town Council Hall. The meeting was chaired by officials from the office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) and attended by other stakeholders.
One of the key resolutions from the meeting was the requirement for parents to contribute 8 kilograms of maize, UGX 10,000 for grinding, and firewood to enable learners to have porridge at school. Additionally, the meeting resolved that debates should be made compulsory every Friday, English should be spoken from Primary One to Primary Seven, and homework should be assigned every Friday. Parents were also urged to report cases of illness or weakness in their children to the head teacher’s office.
Ecumu noted that conflicts within the education department at the district headquarters were identified as a major factor contributing to the decline in academic performance. The meeting called for unity and teamwork among education officials to improve learning outcomes.
Additionally, high levels of absenteeism among learners were highlighted as a key challenge, and parents were urged to ensure their children attend school regularly.
The resolutions are expected to be implemented immediately to help boost academic performance in the district.
