Sarah Awor Angweri joins the race, ready to Face Dr. Aceng and Betty Amongi in 2026’s Biggest Political Arena

Lira City, Uganda - As the 2026 general polls near, the political wave in Lira City is heating up as Hon. Sarah Awor Angweri, the current Lira City Female Workers’ Representative, officially announced her candidacy for the Woman Member of Parliament (WMP) seat.
While addressing the media on Wednesday 20 November, 2024 at Lira Hotel, Awor unveiled her vision to bring unity, development, and empowerment to the recently formed Lira City.
She expressed her determination to overcome any challenges in the race for the highly contested seat. She was in the company of supporters and party leaders.
The National Resistance Movement Chairperson for Lira sub- county, Juke Joel has described Awor as a courageous and bold leader, capable of uniting the party amid the ongoing conflicts.
He however warned that internal conflicts within the ruling NRM party could be exploited by the opposition, urging party members to resolve their differences amicably.
Awor is yet to face stiff competition from political giants, including incumbent Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, Health Minister and NRM flagbearer, and Hon. Betty Amongi Akena, Minister of Gender, Labour & Social Development, who is contesting under the UPC ticket.
