Police Investigate Torture Incident in Amolatar District

Amolatar District police are investigating a disturbing case of torture involving a 19-year-old girl and a man from Acanmakicinge village. The incident, which occurred on November 18, 2024, has drawn significant attention after a video surfaced on social media.

The victims, identified as Annet Akwir and her uncle Nelson Opon, were reportedly attacked by members of the Oumolao clan. According to police reports, Akwir was asleep when she heard noises outside her home. Upon checking, she encountered her uncle, who asked for water and then forced his way inside.

Later that night, Akwir's brother, Solomon Okello, discovered Opon's bicycle outside and alerted clan members led by Okwir Olobo. The two victims were allegedly locked in the house until morning, with claims of sexual assault made against Opon.

On the morning of November 18, Olobo ordered Akwir to be beaten with 20 lashes and demanded a payment of Ugx 60,000. The local council chairperson, Bonny Ocen, intervened, instructing others to administer additional punishment.

Police were notified, and a case of torture has been registered at Amolatar Central Police Station. Medical examinations for Akwir have been arranged, and efforts are underway to locate Opon for further investigation. SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the PRO for North Kyoga, confirmed that the scene of the crime has been examined, and the investigation is ongoing.

"Efforts to apprehend the suspects is ongoing though they are all on the run. This is a very babaric approach of disciplining family members even if they have committed any offense, as police we strongly condemn this act and promised to leave No stone unturned.

"We appeal to the suspects to handover themselves freely to any police facility for investigation and answer possible charges against them." Okema added.

Suspects have been identified as; Okwir Olobo, Omunu Ogwal, Opel, Tonnes Alyenyu, Bonny Ocen and others.
