Police Urges Private Sector to Hire Security Guards Amid Rising Insecurity in Dokolo

The North Kyoga Police spokesperson, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, has encouraged private companies and government institutions to embrace hiring private security guards to protect their premises amid escalating insecurity in the region.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday evening, SP Okema said the measure would help curb theft cases reported in various institutions, especially in Dokolo district.

"We have very few police officers to serve every institution across the region. Therefore, we encourage institutions and individuals to hire private security guards to safeguard their property," Okema noted.

This follows a recent theft at Dokolo district headquarters, where unknown thieves broke into various offices and stole computers from different departments. Preliminary reports indicate that 10 computers have been stolen in the past two months.

The suspects have been remanded at Koroto Government Prison as investigations continue.

Dokolo LCV Chairperson, James Otoo Apili, attributed the thefts to negligence by security personnel and announced plans to recruit local security guards to protect district property.

Godfrey Ogwang Okello, the Chief Administrative Officer, hinted at installing CCTV cameras in all district offices to boost security.
