Dokolo District’s 36 Emyooga SACCOs to Receive Additional 20 Million Shillings for Growth

Andrew Opio, an official from the Microfinance Support Center in Lira, announced on Monday evening that all 36 Emyooga SACCOs in Dokolo District will receive an additional 20 million shillings to support their recovery and growth. This statement was made during a refresher training session held at the Dokolo District Council Hall, attended by district stakeholders, security personnel, and SACCO leaders.
Opio explained that many SACCOs in the district had faced challenges since the initial disbursement in the 2020/2021 financial year, leading to the collapse of several. He emphasized that the best-performing SACCOs would receive further funding. Opio also urged SACCO leaders to expedite auditing and ensure that all necessary documents are in place to streamline the process.
Emmanuel Peter Ogwayu, the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer of Dokolo District, confirmed that the district would receive the additional funds to support various groups in combating poverty and improving household incomes. He encouraged Emyooga beneficiaries to invest in farming, both in cash crops and food security crops, to foster positive change in the community.
Patrick Alyenyo, the District Commercial Officer and Focal Person for Emyooga in Dokolo, reported that Dokolo District had received a total of 1.28 billion shillings from the government of Uganda, which was disbursed to 36 Emyooga SACCOs across both Dokolo North and Dokolo South constituencies. Alyenyo highlighted that only eight of the best-performing SACCOs had been selected to receive an additional 20 million shillings, citing good savings practices, record-keeping, and annual auditing as key factors in their success. He also cautioned SACCO leaders against disbursing funds to individuals who failed to return the Emyooga funds to the SACCO accounts.
Tonny Odongo Ocen, the LCV Vice-Chairperson of Dokolo District, urged group leaders to prioritize sustainability and active engagement in their SACCOs to ensure continued progress and development in their communities.
Isaac Oceng Otim, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner of Dokolo, concluded the refresher training by urging the public to fully support government programs without politicizing or misinterpreting them, which could lead to the mismanagement or diversion of funds.
