Police Retrieves Floating Body from Swamp

Lira City, Uganda - Residents of Railway quarters in Lira City East division, Lira City, were on Monday left puzzled after discovering a dead body floating in Wii Okole swamp along Aloi Road.
As normal business kicked off on Monday November 11, 2024, residents of Railway Quarters B and Akia ward were left in shock after discovering a floating dead body on Wii Okole swamp along Aloi Road in Lira city East division.
Speaking to Qfm, Ronald Oryema, a resident of Te- Obwolo B, Akia Ward suspects that the deceased was killed from elsewhere and later brought and dumped into Wii Okole swamp.
Oryema, who was there at the time police retrieved the body, narrates that the body had a rope around the neck, hands and legs.
Meanwhile, Walter Obaro, a resident of Labour line in Railway quarters B expressed fear while decrying security threats in the area noting that the first incident involved a boda boda rider who was hit to death.
Following the threat, Obaro called on security officials within the city to beef up highway patrols to ensure safety of locals and their property now that the country is yet to enter festivities.
He however appealed to boda boda riders to observe their security first before money and desist from ferrying passengers late in the night and also carrying them in dark and isolated places.
Due to young and resourceful boda boda riders dying young in the hands of culprits who are currently targeting them", he concluded.
Just like Oryema, Moses Adee, the LC1 chairperson for Railway quarters B cell also believes that the deceased was killed and later dumped in Wii Okole swamp.
Upon informing the territorial Police at Lira Central police station, the body of a yet to be identified man was later retrieved, and conveyed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital mortuary, in Lira city for postmortem.
