Minister for Gender Labor and Social Development Betty Amongi Akena has commended the Catholic Church for giving holistic homage to innocent children at Nets safe Babies home under Lira Diocese, Lira City.
The event was held on Thursday December 28th, 2023.
The Fundraising event which was presided over by the main celebrant, His Lordship Bishop Sanctus Lino Wanock was attended by different dignitaries. The event realised over shillings 50 million and this will be geared towards renovating Ngetta Babies Homes.
The Guest of Honor who is also woman MP Oyam South gave a cash donation of 5m shillings, 1m shilling by her husband Hon. Jimmy Akena. She also bought a dairy cow at shillings 3 million.
Hon Betty Amongi further said her Ministry will deposit 20m shillings to Ngetta Babies home account. She applauded Ngetta Babies home for supplementing government efforts in supporting the vulnerable children whose biological parents cannot be traced.
"The Ugandan Catholic Church has a total of 21 centers across the country and they are doing a tremendous job in giving hospitality to the most needy Children like that of Ngetta Babies home", said Amongi
"I will work with the in Charge of Ngetta Babies home to ensure that they start getting support from the Ministry of Gender Labor and Social Development", she added.
She however urged the children being cared for at the Babies Home not to lose hope because their fate at the moment can not be decided upon.
"You can be people of High caliber in the future if you put God first and study well", said Amongi.
Meanwhile, the former Minister of Lands Housing and Urban Development Daniel Omara Atubu appealed to Minister Betty Amongi to consider allocating a budget to support Ngetta Babies Home.
