Two Cases of MPox Identified in Otuke District.

Otuke District has reported two confirmed cases of MPox. On December 26, 2024, three samples from suspected cases were collected and sent to the Viral Research Institute in Entebbe for testing. Results released on December 27 confirmed that two of the samples tested positive for the virus.
District Health Officer Patrick Opio and his team visited the affected individuals, who are currently stable and receiving care at home. The cases involve three males aged 31, 34, and 44, all from Otuke Remand Prison.
In response to the situation, 19 suspected cases were documented, and samples were collected on January 1, 2025, for further analysis at the Uganda Virus Research Institute.
DHO Opio urged health workers to maintain a high level of vigilance and surveillance. He reassured the community, stating, "The District leaders are doing all it takes to prevent the spread of MPox. Keep calm and do not panic but avoid contact with suspected cases. Wash hands, report to VHTs and health facilities any suspected cases or call on 0772368101."
