Dokolo District Seeks Over Shs 60 Million for Agwata Town Council's Development Plan

The Dokolo District Local Government is seeking over Shs 60 million for the development of a physical plan for Agwata Town Council. This was brought to attention by Flowrance Elupu, the Female Councilor for Bata Sub County, who raised concerns during the council meeting about the lack of allocated funds for the physical plan in the draft estimate budget for the 2025/2026 financial year.

Alex Owera Omola, Chairperson of the Committee on Production and Marketing and Natural Resources, presented a report recommending additional funds for Agwata Town Council's physical plan in the next financial year. The committee also suggested that all trading centers must meet physical planning standards, with at least three streets behind the main street, before being elevated to town council status.

Isaac Okola, Acting Senior Natural Resources Officer, confirmed that the district is currently searching for the required Shs 60 million through the procurement department to fund the physical plan development.

Draramio Bob Owaka, LCV Councilor for Bata Sub County, raised concerns about the poor implementation of council resolutions, particularly regarding the Parish Development Model (PDM) and the Education Ordinance, which are affecting service delivery in the locality. He also recommended that the district recruit more staff to improve PDM processes.

Patrick Alenyo, the District Commercial Officer, shared that the district had submitted documents to the Ministry of Trade and Tourism for retooling and equipping the office with the necessary furniture.

Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Emmanuel Peter Ogwayo mentioned that the district had written to the Ministry of Public Service to facilitate the recruitment of additional staff to support the PDM process.
