Arts teachers united under their umbrella body, “Uganda Professional Humanities Teachers’ Union”, have initiated efforts to negotiate a pay raise with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

President Laban Munywanisa, has led a 13-member committee to engage in discussions aimed at securing improved salaries for arts teachers, aligning them with their science counterparts.

The move comes as a response to President Museveni’s previous directive to ensure equitable compensation for both arts and science educators.

Notably, last year, President Yoweri Museveni ordered a significant pay raise for science teachers, elevating their salaries from shs1.1 million and shs700,000 to shs2.5 and shs4 million.

As the committee gears up for negotiations with President Museveni, the arts teachers remain optimistic about the prospect of achieving wage equality and recognition for their invaluable contributions to education.
