UPC Presidential Mobilisation Tours Move to Teso

The Uganda People's Congress (UPC) has announced that its President, Hon. Jimmy James Micheal Akena, will continue his nationwide mobilisation tours by engaging with the people of Teso sub-region.
The tour, which commenced in Lango sub-region, will now see Akena visit Kaberamaido District on Saturday, March 1, 2025, before proceeding to Kalaki District on Sunday, March 2, 2025.
According to a statement from UPC Spokesperson Arach Oyat Sharon, the ongoing mobilisation exercise is part of the party’s broader preparations for the 2025/2026 general elections.
According to Arach, the party leadership has called upon its members and the general public in Kaberamaido and Kalaki Districts to turn up in large numbers and actively participate in the engagements.
She also appealed to police not to interfere with their tours at the planned venues, challenging that such brutal and uncalled for actions on their supporters could initiate unnecessary political tensions.
Hon. Akena’s tour follows successful engagements in Alebtong and Otuke Districts, where the UPC leader was warmly received on February 22 and 23, 2025.
The party expressed gratitude to the people of these districts for their unwavering support and commitment to the UPC cause.
During the mobilisation tours, UPC further reaffirmed its readiness to field candidates at all elective levels, including the presidency.
The party also urged its members to participate in the ongoing registration exercise, which is crucial for strengthening its grassroots structures ahead of the 2026 elections.
Despite the enthusiasm surrounding the mobilisation efforts, UPC has raised concerns over last-minute cancellations and alterations of political gathering venues, specifically citing an incident that manifested in Alira primary school in Akura sub county in Alebtong district on February 22, 2025, where attendees were abruptly dispersed and redirected to a different venue, located more than three kilometers away from the original site.
Faizal Muzeyi, the head of Communications and media at UPC has now called on security agencies, particularly the police, to ensure that such disruptions do not recur elsewhere emphasizing that political space must be safeguarded, allowing leaders to engage freely with voters.
"Our democracy needs to be safeguarded at all times. Political space ought to be expanded to enable political leadership to reach out to grassroots communities and engage directly with the people, who are the voters," said Muzeyi.
As the UPC presidential mobilisation tours continue, all eyes will be on the party’s ability to consolidate its support base ahead of the upcoming general elections.
The next phase of engagements in Teso sub-region will be crucial in assessing the party's influence and readiness for the electoral contest.
