NUP's Nalukoola Wins Kawempe North By-Election

Luyimbazi Elias Nalukoola of the National Unity Platform (NUP) has been declared the winner of the Kawempe Division North parliamentary by-election after securing a decisive victory with 17,764 votes.
The results, officially announced by the Returning Officer, Makabayi Henry, were declared at Makerere University School of Public Health Auditorium at 00:20hrs on March 14, 2025.
The election saw a total of 27,596 valid votes cast, with Nalukoola emerging as the clear favorite, defeating his closest rival, Namabi Faridah Kigongo of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), who garnered 8,593 votes.
Other candidates in the race included; Mukiibi Sadat (FDC) – 239 votes, Kasacca Henry Mubiru (DP) – 100 votes, Luwemba Lusswa Muhammad (Independent) – 240 votes, Murerwa Hanifah Karadi (Independent) – 381 votes, Musiitwa Ismail (PPP) – 39 votes and Mutazindwa Muhamood (Independent) – 186 votes
Others were Nsereko Moses (Independent) – 32 votes and Engena-Maitum Edward Stanley (Independent) – 22 votes
The election process recorded 406 invalid votes and 49 spoiled ballots, bringing the total number of ballots counted to 28,002.
This by-election comes at a critical time, with voters in the area eager for improved leadership and representation.
With his victory, Nalukoola now takes up the mantle to represent Kawempe Division North in Uganda’s Parliament for the next 365 days.
