Tragic Bus Incident in Aloi: Mourners Left in Shock After Overturning

Alebtong District, Uganda – In a minor incident that took place on Saturday, March 22, 2025, a white Isuzu coaster, registration number UAK 031G, encountered mechanical failures while navigating the Aloi-Lira Road. The accident occurred around 5:30 PM near the Aloi-Ongom swamp, close to the bustling trading center of Aloi Town Council.

The vehicle, driven by 39-year-old Adupa Felix, a resident of Ober Kampala village in Lira-City West Division, was carrying passengers returning from a burial service in Alebtong Town Council. Witnesses reported that as the vehicle approached the swamp area, it unexpectedly developed mechanical issues, leading the driver to lose control. The coaster then rolled backward off the road and into a nearby trench.

Upon receiving reports of the incident, a team of traffic officers from Alebtong, led by the District Criminal Investigations Department (CID), promptly arrived at the scene to assess the situation. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported, and all passengers were unharmed.

The vehicle was later secured at the Aloi-Ongom trading center, where it was guarded by two armed officers while awaiting towing to the station for a thorough inspection. Authorities are taking this opportunity to remind vehicle owners and drivers about the importance of regular maintenance checks to prevent similar incidents in the future.

"Safety on the roads is paramount," stated North Kyoga Region Police Spokesperson, Patrick Jimmy Okema. "We encourage all drivers to ensure their vehicles are in good working condition before embarking on any journey, especially on routes that can be challenging."

As the investigation continues, the community remains grateful that no one was injured in this incident, and the prompt response from local authorities has been commended.
