Dokolo District Hands Over UGX 257M School Construction Project to UPDF Engineering Brigade

Dokolo – The Dokolo District Local Government, through its Education Department, has officially handed over a construction site for the rehabilitation of a science laboratory and a four-classroom block at St. John Bosco Secondary School to the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Engineering Brigade.

The site handover ceremony was held at the school premises in Acengryeny Cell, Central Ward, Dokolo Town Council.

Granfil Oryono Omonda, the Chief Administrative Officer of Dokolo, thanked the Ministry of Education and Sports for recognizing the school, noting its need for infrastructure development. He pledged to closely monitor and supervise the project to ensure its successful completion.

District Education Officer David Eryatu applauded the ministry for equipping the school with learning materials and infrastructure support. He urged the UPDF engineering team to deliver high-quality work with transparency and accountability.

James Otoo Apili, the LCV Chairperson of Dokolo, warned the engineering team against absenteeism at the construction site, which could delay progress. He also appealed to the government to consider renovating more structures in traditional secondary schools, many of which are in poor condition. He emphasized the need for unity and collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure value for money.

The school’s Head Teacher, Charles Oilar, highlighted numerous challenges facing the school, including inadequate accommodation for staff and students, poor infrastructure, a lack of computer equipment, and insufficient learning materials. He said the new facilities will greatly enhance academic performance.

Maj. Innocent Namubelzu, the site engineer from the UPDF, assured the district of their commitment to quality work.

Paul Numbiru, the Northern Regional Engineer from the Ministry of Education and Sports, revealed that UGX 270 million has been allocated for the project, which is expected to be completed within six months. He warned the surrounding community against theft of construction materials and announced that 40% of the workforce will be drawn from the local community, while 60% will come from the UPDF team.

Numbiru also urged locals to support the project by providing available resources to speed up the construction process.
