Lira City, Uganda – In an astonishing display of football prowess, St. Mary's Magdalene School scored a staggering 34 goals in just two friendly matches on Friday, March 7, 2025, as they prepare for the upcoming USSSA Post Primary football competition set for March 14, 2025. The team, managed by Mentor Schools, showcased their dominance by defeating Lira City Comprehensive School 18-0 and Lira SS girls 16-0, leaving fans and opponents in awe.

In the match against Lira SS, St. Mary's Magdalene coaches made a strategic decision to withdraw three infield players while already leading with a remarkable 13 goals. Despite this adjustment, the remaining seven infield players continued their onslaught, scoring three additional goals to finish the game at 16-0. The standout performer was Mary Alaro, who netted a hat trick, while teammates Sumaya Akanya, Flavia Anyinge, and Irene Alum contributed two goals each. The scoring frenzy was rounded out by contributions from Loy Acen, Miriam Tino, Elizabeth Atyang, Monica Akello, Patricia Acayo, Miriam Ageno, Sandra Akello, Ruth Atala, and Miriam Acio, each adding their names to the scoresheet.

Later that day, St. Mary's Magdalene faced Lira City Comprehensive School, where they continued their scoring spree. Patricia Acayo and Sandra Akello each scored hat tricks, while Ruth Atala, Flavia Anyinge, Mary Alaro, and Sumaya Akanya added two goals apiece. Miriam Ageno, Miriam Tino, and Irene Alum also got on the scoreboard, contributing to the impressive 18-0 victory.

The team’s remarkable performance comes on the heels of their successful 2024 season, where they represented the USSSA Lango Zone in the national tournament, finishing as first runners-up after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Acaba SS in the finals. They also claimed the title of champions in the girls' USSSA football competition for Lira City after defeating St. Katherine Girls SS 1-0. However, their journey at the national level was cut short in the round of 16, losing again by a single goal to Bishop Comboni College.

As they look ahead to the upcoming competition, the girls of St. Mary's Magdalene are determined to correct the mistakes of the past and make a deeper run in the tournament. The upcoming district qualifiers on March 14 are a crucial step toward achieving their goal of returning to the national stage.

Beyond their athletic achievements, St. Mary's Magdalene is also recognized for its academic excellence, consistently ranking among the top female single schools in the region at both O-Level and A-Level. Under the guidance of Geoffrey Odur, affectionately known as Odur Mentor, the school has cultivated a culture of success that fosters both academic and athletic achievement.

With their sights set on victory and a commitment to excellence, St. Mary's Magdalene is poised to make a significant impact in the upcoming USSSA Post Primary competition. The excitement is palpable as fans eagerly await the next chapter in this remarkable team's journey.
