A Force to Reckon With: Mentor SS Holds Blacks Power FC to a Thrilling Draw

Thursday, 6th March 2025 — In an electrifying encounter that showcased the heart and determination of both teams, at UTC Lira, Blacks Power FC's new home ground, Mentor SS held the FUFA Big League high-profile club to a thrilling 2-2 draw in preparation for the upcoming USSSA Football Competition set to take place in Lira City on January 14, 2025. The match, filled with drama and skill, left spectators on the edge of their feet.

Blacks Power FC kicked off the scoring in the 25th minute, with Paul Oonyu finding the back of the net, sending their supporters into a frenzy. However, the joy was short-lived as Mentor SS quickly leveled the score just ten minutes later. In a twist of fate, it was Daniel Otim who inadvertently put the ball in his own net, leaving both teams at a stalemate.

As the first half drew to a close, the momentum shifted in favor of Mentor SS. Their star striker, Emmanuel Opio (S.3), known for his aerial prowess, delivered a stunning back-header that left Blacks Power FC’s goalkeeper, Emmanuel Odongkara, utterly helpless. With this goal, Mentor SS went into halftime with a 2-1 lead, much to the delight of their fans.

The second half saw a strategic shift from Blacks Power FC as they introduced their "Team B," a move aimed at revitalizing their attack. This decision paid off in the 74th minute when Jimmy Okiror found the equalizer, bringing the score to 2-2. The intensity of the match surged, with both teams pushing for the win, but neither could find the decisive goal.

The draw not only highlights the competitive spirit of both teams but also serves as a crucial stepping stone for Mentor SS as they prepare for the national stage. Having represented the USSSA Lango Zone in the previous year's competition, where they excelled by reaching the group stages and qualifying as champions at both district and regional levels, the stakes are higher this time around.

Blacks Power FC prepares to welcome Boma FC at UTC Lira on Sunday 9th March 2025 in the FUFA Big League as they continue with their pursuit of qualifying to the Uganda Premier League.

Mentor SS has been diligently preparing for the upcoming tournament, conducting rigorous training sessions and trials throughout the 3rd term holidays. With an impressive track record, the school offers various sports bursaries across its three campuses—Akwoyo, Gwengabara, and St. Mary's Magdalene. The sports programs include football, athletics, netball, and more, contributing to the school's reputation as one of the best secondary institutions in the Northern Region, excelling in national examinations of UCE and UACE.

As the countdown to the USSSA Football Competition begins, all eyes will be on Mentor SS, a team that has proven to be a formidable force on the field.
