Lubaga Catholic Diocese Chancellor, Fr Pius Male, has asked parents to protect children from technology that distracts them from the realities of life.

Fr Male, who presided over the New Year’s Day sermon on behalf of the Kampala Archbishop, Paul Ssemogerere, said children are perishing in the hands of technology.

Much as technology is inevitable, Fr Male said parents need not abandon their roles of guiding the future generation.

Fr Male’s preaching on the dangers of unguided technology especially for children is in line with Pope Francis’s message that technology should be used to promote peace and prosperity but not as destruction for existing peace.

The church said children cannot control themselves with technology and it requires parents and every adult to ensure the young ones do not go astray in the hands of technology.

According to the children’s department at the ministry, during the lockdown, many children were exposed to pornography and verbal abuse on phones.
