Mentor SS Ends Goalless Standoff with Teso College Aleot in Final Friendly Before USSSA Tournament

Soroti, Uganda – In a thrilling yet goalless encounter, Mentor SS faced off against Teso College Aleot in what turned out to be a nail-biting friendly match held in Soroti. Despite the absence of goals, both teams showcased their attacking prowess, creating numerous opportunities that left fans on the edge of their toes. This match marks the final preparation for the Lira-based football powerhouse ahead of the highly anticipated USSSA Post Primary Football Tournament, set to kick off on Friday, March 14, 2025.

The friendly served as a crucial test for Mentor SS, who are gearing up to make a strong impression in the tournament. Coach Ronald Okello expressed optimism despite the draw, stating, “We created enough chances to win the game. It’s all about converting those opportunities. We’ll work on our finishing before the tournament.”

As part of the tournament preparations, a screening exercise for eligible players is scheduled for Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Ambalal Primary School.

The boys’ tournament will be hosted across three venues: Erute P.7, Ireda P.7, and Anai P.7, while the girls’ tournament will take place at Ambalal P.7, Adyel P.7, and Lira P.7. The girls’ screening, which took place on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, saw a total of ten teams drawn into two competitive groups.

In Group A, the teams include St. Mary Magdalene, Bishop Tarantino College, Lira City Comprehensive SS, Lira SS, Hill City College, and Top Star SS. Group B features St. Katherine SS, Lira Town College, COTN Marani SS, Nexus High School, King James Comprehensive SS, and Rachele Comprehensive SS.

With the screening process underway and the tournament just days away, Mentor SS is focused on refining their strategies and ensuring they are in peak condition. The anticipation for an action-packed tournament is palpable, as schools across the City of Lira look to claim the coveted title.
