The chairperson of the Uganda Independent Electoral Commission has on Monday 12th launched the Dokolo by elections roadmap for the forthcoming Woman Member of Parliament.
Speaking to different stakeholders gathered at Dokolo Technical School, EC Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama confirmed that the roadmap will begin with validating and displaying the voter’s register for all the polling stations across Dokolo district.
According to Byabakama, the display of the voter’s register will run from the February 21st-1st of March while nomination day will run from 11th-12th.
He also notes that after the two-day nomination exercise, campaigns will immediately swing in from the 13th-19th of March,2024 ahead of the by elections to take place on 21st March, 2024.
It is upon this that he encouraged all the candidates upon nomination to mobilise their voters to attend the campaign rallies peacefully. He however warned them against holding processions on public roads.
Furthermore, Justice Byabakama appealed to all political parties and independent candidates to observe law and order and also avoid violence.
He also urged Local Council 1 chairpersons to ensure a peaceful process of the election calling upon the LC1s to seek help from police in case of any disruptions, highlighting that LC1s term of service has been extended by six more months, encouraging them to maintain
their stamps.
