Police in Apac district are holding in custody a 15-year old boy for allegedly causing the death of his father.
Ronald Omara, 15, had returned to his father's home at Otuculuk village, Ibuje Sub-County in Apac District to spend the festive season with the family.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect at about 8pm on the night of January 3rd, 2024 sat together with his father, Charles Aliro, aged 52, before they started arguing. Their argument however prompted the suspect to pick up a piece of stick and later hit the father on the head.
SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying the victim fell and collapsed during the attack.
“The deceased fell down, and a neighbor was informed. He later picked Aliro, but unfortunately he was already dead. The body was later conveyed to Apac Hospital Mortuary," says the Police spokesperson, SP Okema.
Okema also revealed that the suspect was immediately handed over to Apac Central Police Station where a case of murder was preferred against him.
According to police, Charles Ogwal, the neighbour who removed the body from the scene before reporting the case to police, has since been arrested to aid in the investigation process.
"He has been arrested to help police to investigate why he hurriedly picked up the body from the scene and took it to the mortuary, before the crime team could conduct an assessment," SP Okema added.
Okema said investigators have started reconstructing the crime scene while the deceased body is pending postmortem examination at Apac Hospital.
