The Bishop of Lira Catholic Diocese Rt. Rev Sanctus Lino Wannock has distanced himself from the rumors going around linking him to the coming of Gender Minister Betty Amongi to run for Woman MP of Lira City.

While addressing the media at Apostolic Social Center in Lira City on Friday February 23rd, 2024, the Diocesan Chancellor Fr. Emmanuel Opio said that Bishop Wannock does not have a hand in bringing Hon Amongi to unseat Lira City MP Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ochero.

"There is no evidence whatsoever linking Wannock as backing Amongi and those spreading propaganda must stop" Fr Emmanuel Opio noted.

According to the Chancellor, it is not the work of the Catholic Church to impose a leader on the people of Lira City but the Church will work with anyone among the two who shall be elected by the people bashing on their Choice.

He added that the Catholic Church will always remain a Uniting factor but not to promote divisionism between the two Senior Ministers and the people of Lira City.

Fr Emmanuel Opio appealed to Lira City residents to cherish peace over hatred because the Church does not Promote disunity.

In 2023, the Gender Minister Betty Amongi Akena changed her mind and direction to Lira City where she is currently traversing the City Supporting Churches, Women groups, LC1 Saccos and Child Mothers among other Categories of people.
