Youth representative, Lira city call on youths to embrace Saccos

The Youth leadership in Lira City are pushing for the establishment of a Sacco group for the unemployed youths who are staggering with ways of living in the changing economy.

The move is geared towards bringing youth leaders under the National Youth Council together and forging a way of getting support from the government and other Non- Governmental Organizations.

In her address to the National Youth Council members at Lira City Council Hall on Friday January 5th, female youth councillor Shakila Among explained the need to have a Sacco group for the youths across Lira city.

Shakila Among who also doubles as Deputy Speaker, Lira city challenged that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni can not support individuals who are not in well established groups, a reason why they feel it is necessary to establish a Sacco group mainly for youths within Lira City.

"It makes it easy for me to lobby for support for you when you are in a registered group", Among added.

The Coordinator for Lango Sub Region in the office of the National Chairperson, Prossy Langol applauded Shakila Among for her visionary idea of forming the Sacco for the youths in Lira City.

According to Langol, the National Coordinator for ONC Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo is expected to visit Lango sub region in early February. 

"With the coming of Hajjat Namyalo, youths can only benefit if they be in organized and registered Saccos", said Langol.

She however put a big blame on some youths in Lira City for being untrusted people.

"Some youths in Lira city are not even paying back government loans they got from government initiatives like Emyooga funds. Some have deliberately refused to pay back yet is is a revolving funds", Langol wondered.
