Regional Stakeholders' Workshop Focuses on Voter Registration in Northern Uganda

On January 10, 2025, the electoral commission hosted a workshop at Pauline Hotel for stakeholders in Northern Uganda. The event aimed to discuss the update and display of the National Voters' Register and the compilation of registers for special interest groups in preparation for the upcoming 2026 general elections.
Senior Election Officer Patrick Wetake emphasized that elections involve multiple steps, not just a single day of voting. He outlined the process, which includes compiling the National Voters' Register, nominating candidates, updating and displaying voter information, tallying votes, and declaring results. Each of these activities is governed by constitutional law.
Jessica Adongo Ocen, the District Election Administrator for Alebtong District, informed attendees about new voters who were under 18 during registration. She also addressed concerns regarding voters assigned to polling stations in different districts from where they registered.
Ochama Ahmed concluded the workshop by encouraging citizens to engage with electoral offices, participate in all election-related activities, and maintain peace throughout the election process.
