Regional League: Savior FC Holds 10-Man LCC FC to a Goalless Draw in the Lira City Derby

Lira, Uganda – In a fiercely contested match on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, Savior FC managed to secure a goalless draw against Lira City Council FC (LCC FC) in the much-anticipated Lira City Derby held at the Lira Town College playground. The match, part of the Northern Regional League, showcased intense rivalry and resilience from both teams, but ultimately ended in a stalemate.

LCC FC, despite being reduced to ten men late in the game, dominated possession and created several scoring opportunities. Their star forward, Dickens Okwir Diara, came agonizingly close to breaking the deadlock on three occasions. However, Savior FC's goalkeeper was in exceptional form, making two crucial saves to deny Diara, while the third attempt narrowly missed the target.

The tension escalated in the second half when LCC FC's Daniel Ochero received a second yellow card for a dangerous tackle, forcing his team to play with a man down. This pivotal moment shifted the dynamics of the match, as Savior FC sought to capitalize on their numerical advantage, but the LCC FC defense held firm, preventing any late-game breakthroughs.

The draw comes as a relief to Northern Gateway SC, the leaders of the Rhino group in the Northern Regional League, who suffered a surprising 2-0 defeat against Red Devo FC over the weekend in Amolatar District. With this result, Northern Gateway SC remains just one point ahead of LCC FC, although they have played one game less, keeping the title race tightly contested.

Coached by Sadam Ogwang, a former goalkeeper for Lango Province and Sporting United, LCC FC faced the challenge without their tactician, Dan Ogwal Engwedo, who was absent for the match. Ogwang’s tactical adjustments were evident, as the team maintained a strong defensive structure despite the setback of Ochero’s dismissal.

Fans from both sides filled the pitch side, creating an electric atmosphere that highlighted the significance of the derby. While the game ended without goals, it was a testament to the fierce competition in the Northern Regional League, as both teams strive for glory in the remaining matches of the season.

As the league progresses, both Savior FC and LCC FC will look to build on their performances, with the next fixtures promising to be just as thrilling. The Lira City Derby may have ended in a draw, but the rivalry is far from over, and fans can expect more action in the weeks to come. Savior FC beat Lira City Council FC in the reverse fixture, in the 1st round.
