RDC Commissions Four Roads, Launches Another under Mechanized Maintenance in Dokolo

The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Dokolo, Babra Akech, has commissioned four roads and officially launched one under the Road Mechanized Maintenance Program.

The event took place in Te-ilwa Village, Ochero Parish, Bata Sub-county, and was attended by district stakeholders, sub-county leaders, LCII and LCI chairpersons, and local community members.

Villages represented at the event included Wang Lobo, Te-ilwa, Akabi, Anyomoranga, Alapata, Ochero, and Alela.

The commissioned roads are; Adwoki–Amwoma (4 km) – UGX 16 million, Awiri–Igar–Amwoma (15.6 km) – UGX 84 million, Abutadii–Amunamun (8.6 km) – UGX 30.5 million, Agwata–Kwania Border (2 km) – UGX 8 million, and Alapata–Apita–Atabu (8 km) – UGX 53.8 million (launched under mechanized maintenance funding)

RDC Akech urged the district engineering department, local leaders, and the community to avoid corruption, which she said undermines the success of government programs.

Geoffrey Opori, the Assistant District Engineer, acknowledged challenges due to malfunctioning equipment but appealed for community patience. He urged locals not to plant trees or build on road reserves and to protect water channels along roads.

Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Grangfil Oryono Omonda revealed that the district has received UGX 1 billion from the ministry for further development and called on the engineering department to ensure proper supervision, monitoring, and accountability of all works.

Tonny Odongo Ocen, Vice Chairperson LCV and Agwata Sub-county representative, encouraged voters to elect leaders with vision, connections, and lobbying power. He also warned youth against stealing road construction equipment.

Bob Ogwal Owaka, the LCV Councilor for Bata Sub-county, noted that road rehabilitation will boost access to markets, health facilities, and schools in the area.

Alex Ojok, the LCIII Chairperson for Bata Sub-county, decried the challenges caused by poor roads and urged residents not to misuse road spaces by using ox-ploughs or making bricks along road reserves.

Closing the event, Hon. Sarah Aguti Nyangkori, the Woman MP for Dokolo, urged the public to use the roads to boost social-economic growth and improve household incomes.
