One Million Poor Households in Uganda Set To Benefit from World Bank Free Electricity Connection Funded Project
The Ugandan government plans to offer free electricity connections to at least one million households across the country.
Energy Minister Ruth Nankabirwa announced the initiative during the annual general meeting of the Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL).
The project, known as the Energy Access Scale-up Project (EASP), is set to commence early next year, with funding support from the World Bank, totaling $638 million (over Shs2.36 trillion).
The EASP, launched in early 2022, focuses on expanding energy access for households, enterprises, and institutions through both grid and off-grid connections.
