Minister Otafiire tasked on growing spate of killings
Legislators sitting on the Defence and Internal Affairs committee of Parliament have tasked the Minister for Internal Affairs Maj. General Kahinda Otafiire to explain the increasing spate of killings in the Country that have kept the public in a state of panic.
The legislators say the recent attempted assassination of Pastor Aloysius Bujjingo, the murder of the Masindi District Health Officer Dr. Jino Abiriga, coupled with other cases of murder is causing disquiet among the public.
Earlier today, officials from the Ministry of Internal affairs, led by ministers, Maj. Gen Kahinda Otafiire and Gen David Muhoozi, appeared before the committee to defend the Ministry’s budget frame work paper for the year 2024/2025.
Otafiire decried the proposed UGX 465 billion cut in resources allocated to the Ministry, saying this is likely to affect the operations of Uganda Police, Uganda Prisons, NIRA and the Immigration department.
Committee members also raised a concern on the increasing spate of killings in the country with the latest being the attempted assassination of Pastor Aloysius Bujjingo.
The Minister says investigations are under way in all the cases of recent murder and attempted assassinations.
The hiring of panga-wielding goons to aid land-grabbing in some parts of the Country also generated serious debate in the Committee. The Minister, however, distanced the police from such activities and directed the immediate arrest of any individuals involved in them.
