Dokolo Taxi Drivers Lead Town Clean-Up Initiative

Dokolo - Dokolo Taxi Drivers and Conductors Association has launched a sanitation campaign to promote hygiene and cleanliness in Dokolo Town Council.

Speaking to journalists on Monday morning, the association's chairperson, Malkom Okwanga, said the initiative aims to improve the town’s cleanliness while fostering better relationships between taxi operators, the business community, and local authorities.

Okwanga emphasized their commitment to regularly collecting garbage in the town and called for cooperation with the town council.

He also urged the local government to support their efforts by providing essential equipment such as a tractor for garbage collection, gloves, and brooms.

The clean-up efforts have so far covered key locations, including Dokolo Mayor’s Garden, the main market, major streets, and highways leading to Lira, Soroti, and Kaberamaido.

Jacob Ogwang, the LC1 chairperson of Akaidebe Cell, Central Ward, commended the taxi association for its teamwork and urged business owners to install dustbins at their premises.

He also called on the town council to designate proper waste disposal sites.

Abel Ekol, chairperson of the Dokolo Town Council Business Community, encouraged traders to maintain hygiene to attract investors.

He also revealed that plans are underway to introduce a by-law against littering, particularly the indiscriminate disposal of polythene bags and plastic bottles.

Meanwhile, Jimmy Emmanuel Ecumu, the Vice LCIII chairperson of Dokolo Town Council, announced that the council has allocated funds to purchase dustbins, acquire land for waste disposal, and recruit additional workers to improve sanitation in the town.
