LIRA: Residents of Aromo Town board in Aromo Sub County Lira district have been left in shock following the murder of their fellow market vendor.

The unfortunate incident unfolded on Wednesday 17th April, 2024.

Speaking to the Local Council 3 chairperson of Aromo Sub County, Ameri Ojok Odongo, he confirmed the sad incident that befell Robert Odongo, a popular business mind in the community popularly referred to as Odongo Opac.

Ojok alleges that the wife Susan Acen who was later lynched by the angry mob is responsible for the misfortune.

‘The angry residents took the law into their hands, followed the lady who was under police custody and lynched her to death”, Odongo added.

Ojok furthers says the wife could have used unknown killers to kill the husband Odongo

“we believe that the woman might have used the unknown killers who overpowered him; otherwise, the husband was once a soldier.” he said.

As it stands, the territorial police in Lira District are closely investigating suspected murders of Robert Odongo aged 54 yrs old and his wife Susan Acen 37 yrs old. The ugly incident occurred on Wednesday 17th April, 2024 in Akaidebe village, Otara parish, Aromo Sub-County in Lira District.

This follows a report registered at police in Aromo by Emmanuel Odongtoo the area LC1 of Obot B village.

Police findings allege that on Wednesday 17th April, 2024 the reporter went to the home of the Odongo who was also the LC1 of Akaidebe village and Mayor Aromo Town board to get some money to buy goats, but found his 2nd wife Acen at home who told him that Odongo wasn't around.

Furthermore, the findings reveal that Odongtoo later became suspicious, searched around and discovered something parked in a sack and put under the bed, only to find that Odongo Robert was dead.

Reports further revealed that Acen ran seeking to flee the angry mob but later, a report of murder was registered at Aromo police at around 09:00 hours. Immediately, the police responded to rescued Acen and later put her under police custody, but the community turned chaotic and followed the police and forcefully removed Acen from police cells and lynched her to death.

North Kyoga Police spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema confirmed the incident noting that Police officers led by the DPC Lira District homicide team and SOCO visited the crime scene and documented it.

They also recovered 3 sacks with some pieces of stones and a piston recovered at the scene suspected to have been used to kill Odongo to aid the ongoing investigation.

Okema now says Racheal Alum; the daughter of Acen Susan has been arrested to support the investigation.
