Aryek-Opit Road Rehabilitation Begins
Oyam District Local Government- Department of Works and Engineering has kicked off the long-awaited project of rehabilitating a 12-kilometer stretch Aryek-Opit road in Ngai sub county.
According to reports, the road was last rehabilitated in 2015 and is currently in a devastating state. Recently, 1 billion shillings was accorded to the district by the central government to enhance road rehabilitation works.
Oyam District Local Government invested 100 million shillings out of the one billion for the rehabilitation of this road.
Beatrice Okello, the female Councilor for Ngai, Abok, in the Oyam District Council, stated that the condition of the road has hindered development, especially trade, in Oyam district and Omoro Town Council including pregnant mothers who have faced difficulties in accessing health services due to the poor road.
Oyam district boss, Dilla Benson Oyuku who is also Secretary of Works and Technical Services for the Oyam District Local Government notes that the delay in the road works was due to a lack of sufficient road funds released by the central government.
He noted that Oyam district expects to rehabilitate 102 kilometers of roads out of the total 572 kilometers in the district in the financial year 2024/2025.
