Lira City, Uganda – March 17, 2025 – The group stage of the Lira City USSSA ball game reached an exhilarating climax on Sunday, with Mentor Secondary School (SS) and Dr. Obote College (DOC) earning maximum points at the group stage. The day was filled with thrilling matches, but none more captivating than Mentor SS's decisive 2-0 victory over Premier Progressive SS.

The match began with both teams displaying commendable defense, resulting in a goalless first half despite a flurry of goal-scoring opportunities. The tension was palpable as players on both sides fought hard, but neither could find the back of the net before the break. As the second half kicked off, the atmosphere shifted dramatically. Joshua Ekii broke the deadlock with a well-placed shot. Shortly after, Desmond Odur doubled the lead, leaving Premier Progressive SS scrambling to find an answer. However, Mentor SS's momentum was briefly interrupted when Emmanuel Opio's penalty attempt went awry, missing the chance to extend their lead to 3-0.

"We had a lot of chances, and it's unfortunate that we missed the penalty," said the Head Coach Ronald Okello, after the match. "But we are happy with the win and ready for the quarter-finals."

With this victory, Mentor SS topped their group alongside Light Vocational SS, Lira City Comprehensive School, and DOC, all of whom showcased impressive performances throughout the group stage. Meanwhile, King James Comprehensive School, Tasha High School, Faith SS, and Lira Town College secured their spots as runners-up, setting the stage for an exciting quarter-final round.
